London - Outer at a Glance
London's outer suburbs can more than match the central
area of the city for world class sights, relaxing spa hotels and sporting
excellence. To the west the urban sprawl slowly turns into wide, open green areas
with Hampton
Court Palace, once home to Henry VIII, boasting 60 acres of parkland. These
are dwarfed by the expansive Royal
Botanical Gardens at Kew, which has beautifully landscaped grounds and greenhouses
filled with exotic plants. England's home of Football at Wembley
has been redeveloped into one of the world's best sport's stadiums, with the neighbouring
Wembley
Arena hosting concerts and performances from many well-known acts. Sports
fans who like contact as well as skill will relish the chance to catch a game
of Rugby at Twickenham,
where the English national team take on all-comers. Heathrow,
London's main airport, is 15 miles (24 km) from the centre of the city and has
excellent Tube,
rail
and road links. The area around the airport is filled with quality hotels
to suit all tastes.
